My girlfriend and I had just spent the last three days in a heavy rain, giving away free Christmas trees. Everyone made the best of a rainy situation. This put us both in a very good mood. I do not have any memories of Christmas day; however, two days later I asked my girlfriend if she would marry me. We had been dating all of six weeks. She said yes. We now have been married for over 45 years and often think about the “Great Christmas Tree Caper” around the holiday.
